Dan, Molly + Finn | At-home Lifestyle Family Session | St. Louis, MO

I can’t believe Finn is already two! I’ve known Molly for a few years now through my full-time job and have loved every moment I’ve spent with her and Dan. Because of the pandemic, I haven’t had a chance to really get to see a lot of Finn so I was thrilled when they invited me back for photos to celebrate his second birthday! Dan and Molly are truly some of the best people you’ll ever meet. They bring out the best in people and every moment with them is one filled with joy - and hardly like work for me.

At-home lifestyle sessions are great for kids (of all ages!) but especially when they’re a bit younger, like Finn. Dan and Molly really wanted to focus on Finn for this session, capturing his adorable (and wild) hair, sweet smiles, and all the things that make him their cute two-year-old. But, let’s be real, photo sessions can be overwhelming for kids. So being able to be at home, where they’re comfortable, have their toys and their space can be a great way to counteract some of the nerves of a portrait session. Not only that, it’s really special to be able to capture a family in their “natural” environment. I hope that the kids I photograph look back at their photos years from now and remember how their parents played and enjoyed time with them at home.

For Dan, Molly, and Finn’s session, we really never went inside for their photos. Everything was outside! People often think lifestyle sessions have to be indoors, but that isn’t the case. Whether you want them on your front porch, backyard garden, or just outside on your patio, we can absolutely bring that dream to life! It’s a great reminder that your home doesn’t have to be stylish or perfectly clean for it to be a meaningful space for your photos. Let’s create a session that's about what means most to your family!

Wondering what to wear for a lifestyle session?

One of the things that stands out about Dan, Molly, and Finn’s session is their outfits! When planning sessions with my family, we talk a lot about what to wear. I want you to be comfortable and absolutely LOVE your final images… and part of that is choosing great outfits. I always remind my clients of one piece of advice: choose one main pattern, one subdued supporting pattern, then solid colors for the rest. You can add textured pieces (like a jean jacket) on top for some extra visual interest. And I just think that these three nailed this idea!! Finn’s cute little jumper was the perfect way to add a solid color that’s visually interesting to their session outfits. And everything looked so good together. If you need inspiration for your own photos, look no further!

Dan, Molly, and Finn, thank you for welcoming me to your home for Finn’s 2nd birthday! I’m so happy I could be there and document this special time for you!!
