Hi, I’m Brooke.
Let’s take a closer look.
Hi, I’m Brooke—family photographer, new mom to a sweet eight-month-old girl named June, professional noticer of the little things and the creative eye behind See Things Closer Photography.
If you’re wondering where that name comes from, it’s a nod to a line from Moonrise Kingdom—you know, the Wes Anderson movie with all the quirky kids and even quirkier grown-ups. There’s this scene where Susie says her binoculars are her superpower. I loved that line so much it inspired my business name. Except my “binoculars” are a camera.
See Things Closer is about more than just getting the shot—it's about slowing down, tuning in, and zooming in on the people you love most. The hugs where you don’t want to be the first one to let go, the messy untamed curls, the “just one more story” snuggles—these are the little things that build a life.
I started this business because I know how fast it all moves (especially now, as a parent myself). I’m self-employed, running a business and a household, and like you, I’m in the thick of it. I also know that when the dust settles at the end of the day, what matters most are the connections—the quiet, chaotic, goofy, gorgeous rhythms of family life. And, for you to be in your child’s photos when they look back one day.
So that’s what I photograph.
We’ll skip the stiff poses and lean into what’s real. I’ll guide your family with gentle conversation prompts and playful questions, and together, we’ll create something that feels just like you. I want to help your family feel seen, celebrated, and completely comfortable.
This is about documenting the now—messy, magical, and totally you—because today is tomorrow’s nostalgia. I’m here to help you be in the present & see it a little more closely.
A little about me:
I’m a Christ follower and that shapes everything I do. I’m a midwest transplant from Va. Beach, Virginia to St. Louis, MO and have lived here with my husband, Aaron for 12 years. I’m happiest outside with an iced coffee and, honestly, better offline. I love connecting with friends and exploring art museums at every city we visit. Travel is one of the best ways for me to reset when I am in a rut. It really gives me perspective on what is most important in life. When I’m in St. Louis, I love exploring coffee shops, new restaurants and going on walks in Tower Grove Park. I can’t wait to connect!
