My hope with See Things Closer Photography is that it brings your family together through intentional connection and that my camera helps you see the things that mean the most to you closer and in a beautiful new light.

Hi friends! I am crawling out of my recovery hole and am so thankful to be approaching the other side of jaw surgery. Finding joy in the mundane has been a constant, daily struggle. After an unexpected second surgery that put me behind on my milestones for recovery, I found God has been so faithful in giving me peace where one might expect chaos. I’ve also learned that bad days don’t stick around, it is 100% ok to have them and to know that tomorrow is a new day.

One thing that has kept me pushing forward is the fact that once I’m better, I can open my summer photography calendar and see so many familiar faces & new ones! Summer is my favorite month for family photos because school is out, bedtime is more flexible, and there is no shivering from the kiddos or adults. It allows us to get creative and capture fun memories from this season!

Book your session below* or email me at brookejvg@gmail.com to discuss more!

*The times in the link above, are set for ideal, sunlight outdoor sessions. If you’d like to book an indoor, lifestyle session in your home or an indoor studio session, those times are flexible for the day you select.

During my recovery, I started noticing “things that caught my eye” so I’m excited to share a few of those here starting with this brilliant way to save and share your kiddos art work in a beautiful, affordable way in your home. What a fun project this could be for the whole family and give your children confidence in how you want to show off their art.

Secondly, Aaron & I devoured this four-part documentary series on the Magnolia Channel called “Growing Floret” and inspired Aaron & I to start growing our own flowers. We highly recommend this watch! I dare you to watch and try not to be inspired by Erin’s perseverance and resilience during adversity, way before she saw any hints of success in her future.

If you follow me on my personal Instagram account, you know I love having a physical book and an audio book going at the same time. How else am I suppose to get through my TBR list?! Right now, I just finished the novel “The Swimmers” on audio which was a hard, realistic, yet beautiful view into someone encroaching dementia trying to hold onto their “normal life” routine. It also made me majorly want a membership to a pool to be in such an elite friend group of “swimmers”. :)

For the physical book, I am getting ready to pick up “Portrait of a Thief” for my bookclub next month. It was my pick this month and I chose it because I love stories about characters adjusting or owning their cross-cultural identities. Add in suspense and art & it has totally peaked my interest. I also am so impressed by how this is the author’s first novel while in med school.

Please comment below and let me know if you’ve read a page turner recently. I am always down to talk books or add one to my TBR list! :)
